Expertise: Innovation in the measurement of healthcare cost and quality

Dan Dunn consults with healthcare organizations in their adoption of alternative payment models, including global payment and episodes of care.

He served as SVP for business solutions at OptumInsight and as a principal in Optum’s healthcare consulting practice. At Optum, he advised clients on the measurement of healthcare cost and quality and predictive modeling for high-risk patients.

Previously, he was an economist at the Harvard School of Public Health, where he served as technical director of the RBRVS study that developed a physician payment system for Medicare.

Dan also chaired a panel for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), which looked at cost-efficiency measurement and helped to develop the HEDIS Relative Resource Use (RRU) measures.

Trained in economics and quantitative methods, Dan has published extensively in the areas of health services research and healthcare measurement. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of New Hampshire.
